Sugar in Milk Story & Activity (In-Person)

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Alum Rock

Description

Hosted by the Dr. Roberto Cruz Alum Rock Branch Library.

This program is in celebration of Silicon Valley Reads 2023 theme, “Journey to New Beginnings.”

Join us as we share Thrity Umrigar’s “Sugar in Milk,” the story of a young girl who immigrated to the United States. Homesick, scared, not familiar with the common language, her aunt shares a folktale. The folktale helps the girl see her new homeland in a new light, eager to see her new neighborhood and be part of the community.

A craft will follow in which we make a Hyacinth flower which is used in celebration of Persian New Year, Nowruz, on March 21/22, 2023.

Recommended for ages 4-8.

First 40 participants to arrive will be admitted due to limited supplies.

Please observe our Safety Guidelines.
