Immigrants and Refugees Negotiating Public Spaces -- A Special Guest Lecture

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
King Library

Description

SJPL, in partnership with San Jose State University (SJSU), invites the public to gain a better understanding of the shared experiences of immigrants and refugees by attending a special guest lecture by Dr. Julia E. Curry Rodríguez, Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies at SJSU. Hosted in conjunction with SJPL's special exhibit World on the Move: 250,000 Years of Human Migration, this guest lecture -- titled "Immigrants and Refugees Negotiating Public Spaces: Past & Present Contributions, Imaginations, and Resourcefulness" -- will be held at King Library's SJPL Works.

Dr. Julia Curry Rodriguez is a Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies at San Jose State University (SJSU). She is a faculty member at the SJSU Human Rights Institute, and has been instrumental in the development of the University's UndocuSpartan Resource Center. She has extensive experience advocating for services, support, and resources for immigrants, and has received the Wang Family Excellence Award for outstanding service.

In this event, Dr. Curry Rodriguez will speak about the social and spatial experiences of refugees and immigrants. She will shed light on the interconnectedness of various factors that encourage human migration, and the urgency of having a global perspective in reforming single nation policies and laws.

Attendance at both the exhibit and the guest lecture is free. Please view SJPL's safety guidelines for in-person programs.
