3D Printing Drop-In @ TeenHQ

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
King Library

Description

Middle and high school students are welcome to explore 3D printing with this drop-in program at TeenHQ’s MakerSpace. Teens will learn the (very) basics of 3D printing, test a design for printability, then schedule their print for later pick-up.

Teens can choose a design from Thingiverse or bring their own design from home. Designs from home must be in an .stl file format and fit on a USB. All prints must be able to go on a TeenHQ USB and claimed when print is available for pick-up. Designs are considered printable if able to load and save on Lulzbot Cura, but the librarian has final say. All prints must take less than 4 hrs 30 min. All prints are free as long as they meet the printable criteria above and below.

Program is first come, first serve. The first 8 teens will be able to reserve prints.

Laptops are available but may be limited. You may bring your own device, but we recommend downloading and installing Lulzbot Cura prior to attending the program.

All who schedule a print must pick up their print within 3 weeks of being notified their print is ready unless you notify the librarian of any issues. The librarian will email and/or call to notify that the print is ready at TeenHQ for pick-up.

Please be aware that:

  • No weapons or items that could be construed as a weapon will be accepted for print.
  • Prints that are considered obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment will be not accepted for print.
  • The library’s 3D printers must be used only for lawful purposes. All local, state, and federal laws must be followed.
  • For this program, 3D printers will only be operated by library staff.
  • Accepted prints may not violate any third party’s intellectual property, such as copyright, patent, or trademark.
  • Library staff reserve the right to refuse any 3D print request.
  • SJPL and library staff are not responsible for malfunctions or misprints.

This program is free. No pre-registration required.
