A lecture series presented by the Delphian Study Club - providing the opportunity for lifelong learning and friendship via lectures and events. The current series is on the topic of the History and Culture of Silicon Valley with various guest lecturers.
Our January 17th topic is - a screening of the documentary "The Valley That Was" with Guest Presenter Steve Longstreth (Writer, Editor, Director, & Producer)
Steve Longstreth has a BA in Mathematics from Antioch College and an MA in Communications/Film from Stanford University. Following graduate school, he formed a film production company in Palo Alto. For almost four decades, working with two partners, Steve Longstreth produced, directed, wrote, and edited a wide variety of documentary, educational and informational films.
The Valley That Was is a co-production between his company, Variation Films, and KTEH, the PBS affiliate in San Jose when the film was made in 1977. The film presents a 30-minute history of agriculture in Santa Clara Valley through the recollections of people who had worked in orchards, canneries, and wineries in the early part of the 20th century.
