3D Printing Drop-In @ TeenHQ

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
King Library

Description

Middle and high school students are welcome to explore 3D printing with this drop-in program at TeenHQ’s MakerSpace. Teens will learn the (very) basics of 3D printing, test a design for printability, then schedule their print for later pick-up.

Teens can choose a design from Thingiverse or bring their own design from home. Designs from home must be in an .stl file format and fit on a USB. All prints must be able to go on a TeenHQ USB and claimed when print is available for pick-up. Designs are considered printable if able to load and save on Lulzbot Cura, but the librarian has final say. All prints must take less than 4 hrs 30 min to print. All eligible prints are free.

Program is first come, first serve. The first 8 teens will be able to reserve prints.

During the Summer months of June, July, and August, do to increased demand, this program will have in-person advanced pre-registration. Interested teens (middle and high school students) can pre-register starting one hour before the program begins. Teens must be in-person to pre-register to reserve their spot for the program. Phone registration will not be accepted.

This program is restricted to 8 teens. A waitlist will be started if there is interested, but waitlisted individuals are not guaranteed access to the program unless time permits.

Laptops are available.

All who schedule a print must pick up their print within 3 weeks of being notified their print is ready unless you notify the librarian of any issues. The librarian will email and/or call to notify that the print is ready at TeenHQ for pick-up.

Please be aware that:

  • No weapons or items that could be construed as a weapon will be accepted for print.
  • Prints that are considered obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment will be not accepted for print.
