Look Up! San Jose City Hall Peregrine Falcons

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
King Library

Description

“Boots on the Ground” volunteers will bring one Peregrine Falcon nesting season to life by following the hatching, growing, banding, and first flights (fledging) of 2025 peregrines Chico and his sisters in a Google Slides program. You will learn about the life of peregrines in urban settings, the sequence and growth of the chicks (eyasses) from March through June, the challenge of Avian Bird Flu, and how UC Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group and Fledgewatch volunteers have been supporting and saving them at this nest site for 20 years. The nest is located right across the street from the MLK Library and the birds often land on the rooftop of the library.
We will bring a taxidermied Peregrine Falcon and a stuffed toy peregrine with a recorded peregrine call. We will show three live web cams in the nest at city hall.

This program is ideal for elementary school students and their families.

Seating is limited to 50 attendees.
