Add a CommentThis is a very fun read because of its homage to A Christmas Carol. As A Christmas Carol is a book i read every Christmas, to say I was excited about this book is an understatement. I loved the premise and the modern take on the novel. From begining to near the end was a beautiful story and the ending is expected when you think about it but not when oyu are reading. the ending was the most disapointing part, and while i was happy for the character, it felt lacklusture. It is a solid retelling and a must read for young adult fans.
I enjoyed this story - I found it a bit predictable and a little bit too saccharine, but I liked the protagonist and it's always fun to read a Christmas Carol retelling.
What a fun find! Not at all what I expected - definitely not a simple retelling of a Christmas story. Not just a light rom com either. Add a little magic, a little time travel, and lots of surprising plot twists. Highly recommended!
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand is a retelling of the classic story, A Christmas Story, but with a twist. Holly is not like the original Scrooge b/c she does not mend her ways and is forced to serve as the Ghost of Christmas Past and try to save others from the same fate as her. I thought that this was an great twist to the original story. I think this book like the original story shows how it's never too late to mend your ways and think about others.
This book surprised me. It is full of strategically placed quotes and references to the Dickens classic. Even more importantly, the spirit of that classic shines through brilliantly in this YA novel. Holly Chase is Scrooge while also acting as the Ghost of Christmas Past (GCP) for the sixth year in a row since her death--a failure for Project Scrooge. This book has a little Hollywood, a little time travel, a budding teenage romance and ethical dilemmas galore. Recommended!
I liked this take on A Christmas Carol. I expected the ending to go in a different direction, so i wasn't too happy with it. I will state that even though i didn't like the ending i will give the author props for changing this up and not making it so predictable
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun holiday read with a great ending.
A very creative take on a Christmas classic - bookmark it for the next holiday season!
