Waxman does an excellent job of getting the reader into the heads the main characters as she examines the relationship of a mother and teenager. It can be heartbreaking and awkward. The perspectives of this story is what makes it worthy of being read. If there are mother-daughter book clubs this would make an excellent book, and even if it was just a group of moms reading it there would be plenty of discussion as the corporate lawyer and her 16-year old daughter take a weeklong tour of east coast colleges.

A really cute mother-daughter story. Waxman shifted perspectives from Emily to Jessica frequently, so that you could see how each saw a particular exchange or situation, and the miscommunications and missed opportunities for connection were so relatable. This author really has a gift with voice, so each character was distinct, and both were witty and likeable.

A timely novel featuring a single mother and her sixteen-year-old daughter on a weeklong tour of east coast colleges. Includes college admissions issues applicable to recent news and #genderequality elements. I really enjoy Abbi Waxman's style. This is quite different from "The Bookish Life of Nina Hill," but the quirky humor underlying the narrative is very similar. In this new book, the juxtaposition of mom and daughter POVs shows many of the situations from both sides and WE know before they do how wrong many of their assumptions about each other have been. It's always fun to the that upper hand. That inside scoop. Includes discussion questions that will be helpful for book groups.
