"A chilling debut in which a detective must uncover the dark history of a luxury hotel in the Alps if she has any hope of stopping the deaths that won't let up. . . Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Once a sanatorium treating tuberculosis patients, it was abandoned years ago and had fallen into disrepair. Long plagued by troubling rumours, it has recently been renovated into a lavish hotel. And an imposing, isolated hotel, high up in the Swiss Alps, is the last place detective Elin Warner wants to be. But having received an invitation out of the blue to celebrate her estranged brother's recent engagement, she had no choice but to accept. Arriving in the midst of a threatening storm, Elin is immediately on edge. Though it's a stunning retreat, something about the hotel makes her nervous - as does her brother, Isaac. When Elin wakes the following the morning to discover Isaac's fiancée Laure has vanished without a trace, Elin's alarm grows. With the storm cutting off access to and from the hotel, the more the remaining guests start to panic. Yet no one has realized that another woman has gone missing. And she's the only one who could have warned them just how much danger they're all in . . "-- Provided by publisher.

After all the hype I was really disappointed. Granted I read TONS of novels like this so maybe I'm being over critical but I just wasn't impressed at all. Meh.

Reese is losing her touch! Could not finish this book. Not Gothic or Spooky at all. The book could have been edited down to half the chapters...a lot of explaining and describing the obvious. Characters were ridiculous.

This book picks up right in the first chapter and keeps the reader hooked the entire time! It was very suspenseful and creepy and genuinely kept me guessing while I was reading. I couldn't put it down, and finished it in just one day. Loved it! Would highly recommend.

I was disappointed in this one. I feel like the characters were either over or underdeveloped and I kept hoping for
More about the sanatorium. Details didn't come until the end. I found myself very able to put this one down. I finished; really wanted to know who done it. All of the action seemed
To happen late.

Wrap up warm and hang on to the edge of your seat for this thriller. High in the Swiss Alps, a sanatorium has been transformed into a modern hotel. But when Elin arrives to celebrate the engagement of her estranged brother, she discovers the place has a dark past. A murder is committed, Elin's brother's fiance goes missing and as a severe storm descends Elin finds she has to draw on all her detective skills just to stay alive - and stay sane.
A gripping, icy thriller that will keep you guessing.

The narrator of the audio version, Elizabeth Knowelden deserves 5 stars actually and was the only reason I finished this book. The main protagonist keeps kicking herself, blaming herself, repeating the same mistakes , so very annoying ... The setting was perfect for what could have been a very noir and suspenseful thriller but the weak plot and inadequate detective botched it up.

Don’t waste your time on this one. So dumb and the reason for the murders makes no sense and is a reach. The main character is annoying and is supposed to be a police detective, but is awful at her job and actually quite stupid. The book is full of what the author thought was clever aha moments that made me constantly roll my eyes and say sarcastically, “Really. Thanks tips!”

A New & Noteworthy fiction staff pick 2021. You won’t want to leave ... until you can’t. A debut set in a tuberculosis sanatorium-turned-five-star hotel in the Swiss Alps, where a killer is on the loose.

I thought for sure I knew "who dun it" by about halfway through, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out how wrong I was. Without spoiling it, I was super disappointed with the little twist on the very last two pages, but it didn't ruin the whole story for me. Good gothic horror novel. Gobbled it up in just two days.
